The Humor Scientist Featuring Matt Kazam. Episode 3: Work and the Great Resignation. HPHR Journal. 2021. Available at HPHR.org.

September 3, 2021HPHR Journal announces the release of the third installment of the The Humor Scientist with Matt Kazam, on HPHR.org. In this episode, “Work and the Great Resignation,” Matt explores why so many people have decided not to return to business-as-usual a year and a half into the COVID-19 pandemic, and what it means when people choose their health and well-being over a paycheck.

Matt says, “As employees around the world refuse to return to the office or simply quit their jobs, we must consider the role workplace culture in driving this mass exodus. There is an overwhelming feeling right now that the place where we spend much of our lives, and to which we tie so much of our self-worth, must do better by workers.”

Viewers join Matt as he meets with one of HPHR‘s co-editors-in-chief to learn how self-care and rest have become sites of social justice. He continues his exploration around the intersections of work, health, and empathy in conversations with CEO and Co-Founder, Joe Mechlinski, and Managing Director, Jeff Lesher of SHIFT, a “business collective brave and bold enough to shift the work world to transform the real world.”

Then it’s off to the Humor Lab, where Matt reflects on the episode’s lessons and how to create thoughtful engagement in the workplace using lessons from the world of humor.

The producers wish to thank Joe Mechlinski and Jeff Lesher of SHIFT  for their participation in the third episode of The Humor Scientist.
