Denetra Hampton

Denetra Hampton (she/her/hers; based in Suffolk, Virginia) is a 22-year Navy Veteran, and a former United States Naval Nurse Corps Officer. Her professional background consists of a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Hampton University School of Nursing and a Masters in Health Services Administration. Her nursing experiences include post anesthesia, critical care, emergency management, The Joint Commission and Public Health.  She is currently the founder of For Nurses By Nurses Productions, LLC.


A film producer, Denetra released her first mini-documentary, The Black Angels: A Nurse’s Story of African-American Nurses, which profiled a nursing corps who risked their lives to care for patients with tuberculosis at Seaview Hospital, when white nurses refused. Her newly released film, Year of the Nurse and Midwife: A Film Project, is a riveting narrative that gives homage to the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale and the culture of nursing.
